What Evidence Counts in a Product Award

Not every claim a brand makes is evidence.

By Aurora Testing & Evidence Desk · 2026-02-10 · 6 min read

Not every claim a brand makes is evidence, and not every evidence type carries the same weight. Aurora's jury distinguishes between independently verified testing, brand-published measurements with disclosed methodology, and marketing language with no testable basis — treating each differently rather than accepting all three as equally credible. A device that publishes a specific, checkable number (a battery life in hours, a percentage of light blocked, a temperature range) gives the jury something to assess even without third-party verification. A device that publishes only adjectives — "powerful," "advanced," "clinically inspired" — gives the jury nothing to test. The standard published on this site names this distinction explicitly so entrants know, before they apply, what kind of evidence will actually move a decision.
